This map layer shows the number of combat aircraft per country, grouped into five categories, for the year 2017.
Combat aircraft are not only used by a country's air force; this type of heavy weapons system can also be found in different military sectors. The map shows total numbers of air-to-air combat aircraft, air-to-air defence combat aircraft and air-to-land combat aircraft in an aggregated manner. The total number of all aircraft with combat ability is about twice as high and encompasses other types of aircraft, such as ground attack aircraft, training aircraft, transporters, reconnaissance aircraft and surveillance aircraft.
