Protecting the personal information we collect, process and use when you visit our home page is very important to us. As a rule we collect as little information as possible. During this process your information is protected under the data protection regulations.

The Federal Agency for Civic Education has taken technical and organisational measures to ensure that the data protection regulations are adhered to both by us and by external providers.

As we develop our website and implement new technologies to improve our services for you, changes to this privacy policy may become necessary. We therefore recommend that you reread our privacy policy statement from time to time.

User Statistics

This website uses Piwik, a web analytics open-source software. Piwik uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address anonymized prior to its storage) will be stored on the server of BICC in Germany.

This data is evaluated purely for statistical purposes and in order to improve the information provided on our website. It is then deleted. It is not used for other purposes or released to third parties.

You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website

Server log files

Access data is stored in a log file for a limited timespan every time a user accesses the website of the Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC) GmbH and every time data is retrieved.

The following information is recorded whenever a user accesses the site or retrieves data:

  • Date and time of retrieval
  • IP address (anonymised)
  • Name of the data retrieved
  • Amount of data transferred
  • Notification of whether retrieval was successful
  • Operating system and type of browser software used

We reserve the right to analyze these log files in the event of attacks against BICC's Internet infrastructure.

Personal information we need for identification purposes

If you would like to receive the press review via email or wish to contact us, we require certain personal details. We only ask for the specific information the bpb needs to provide you with a certain application or service. Depending on the app or service, information such as your surname, first name and email address will be gathered. The data fields that need to be filled in to use a certain application or service are clearly marked with the (*) symbol.

How the information is used

We use your personal information solely to provide you with the application or service you select. If the application or service is provided on a temporary basis, the bpb will delete your data when the application or service is terminated. If you do not provide the required information, the bpb will not be able to provide you with the selected application or service.

Transfer of personal information to third parties

The information gathered when you use the online services of the bpb is passed on to third parties only insofar as we are legally obliged or obliged by a court decision to do so, or, in the event of attacks on the bpb's Internet structures, insofar as necessary for the purposes of legal action and criminal prosecution. We do not pass on information for non-commercial or commercial purposes.

Protection of minors

Persons under 18 years of age should not transfer any personal information to us without the consent of their parents or guardian. We do not request personal information from children or youths. We do not knowingly gather such information, nor do we pass it on to third parties.
