This map layer with a timeline shows the development of per capita emissions of the greenhouse gas CO2 from 1970 to 2016, classified into five classes.
Example of how to read the map:
Germany emitted 13.59t of CO2 per person in 1970 and 9.47t CO2 in 2016 per person.

The EDGAR database (Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research) is published by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) along with the Dutch Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL).
The database calculates country emissions of all atmospheric gases, in particular of direct greenhouse gases. In addition, the database contains information on the total emissions for international shipping and air traffic.
