This map layer shows the spread of enrichment and reprocessing plants for the year 2018.
Reprocessing and enrichment plants are major installations for the generation of nuclear energy but can also be used to produce weapon-grade material. Furthermore, as locations with large amounts of nuclear material, they constitute a hidden but potent source of danger for environmental impacts, technical errors, human error or even terror attacks. This map layer presents all military and/or civilian-use reprocessing and enrichment plants that were operational, being built, commissioned, switched off temporarily or being planned in 2018.
