On the basis of the Resource Governance Index, this map layer shows resource governance grouped in three categories for the year 2006.
The BICC Resource Governance Index is based on secondary data from various sources. It combines six general measures of good governance (regime type, political rights, civil liberties and press freedom, freedom of assembly and association, social and labour conditions) with four resource-related criteria (percentage of nationally protected areas compared to total land area, Resource Regime Compliance Indicator (RRI) as a means to record the degree to which countries are member of relevant treaties and conventions, wealth redistribution and resource independence.
